The electric power steering system is a power steering system that uses an electric motor as power to assist the driver in steering operations. According to the installation position of the power motor, the EPS system can be roughly divided into three types: column-EPS (C-EPS), pinion-EPS (P-EPS) and rack-EPS (R-EPS).

1.C-EPS

The motor and reducer of C-EPS are arranged on the steering column. The torque of the motor and the torque of the driver rotate the steering column together, and are transmitted to the rack through the intermediate shaft and pinion to achieve power assistance. C-EPS is suitable for compact models with small power assistance requirements; the motor is arranged close to the steering wheel, so it is easy to transmit vibration to the steering wheel.

2.P-EPS

The motor is arranged at the meshing point of the pinion and the rack. The system structure is compact and suitable for small cars with small power assistance requirements.

3.DP-EPS

Dual pinion EPS. The steering gear has two pinions meshing with the rack, one is driven by the motor and the other is driven by human force.

4.R-EPS

RP refers to the rack parallel type, which places the motor directly on the rack. It is suitable for medium and large vehicles with large power requirements. Generally, the motor power is transmitted to the rack through a ball screw and a belt.
