As the power source of the car, the charging and discharging heat of the new energy vehicle power battery will always exist. The performance of the power battery and the battery temperature are closely related. In order to extend the service life of the power battery and obtain the maximum power as much as possible, the battery needs to be used within the specified temperature range. In principle, within the range of -40℃ to +55℃ (the actual battery temperature) the power battery unit is in an operable state. Therefore, the current new energy power battery units are equipped with cooling devices.
Power battery cooling system has air conditioning circulation cooling type, water-cooled type and air-cooled type. This article mainly analyzes the water-cooled and air-cooled type.
The water-cooled power cell cooling system uses a special coolant to flow in the coolant pipeline inside the power cell to transfer the heat generated by the power cell to the coolant, thus reducing the temperature of the power cell. The cooling system is generally divided into 2 separate systems, which are the inverter (PEB)/drive motor cooling system and the high-voltage coolant heater. The cooling system uses the principle of heat transfer to keep the drive motor, inverter (PEB) and power pack at optimum operating temperature by circulating coolant through each separate cooling system circuit. The coolant is a mixture of 50% water and 50% organic acid technology (OAT). The coolant has to be changed regularly to maintain its optimum efficiency and corrosion resistance.
The air-cooled power cell cooling system uses a cooling fan(PTC air heater) to draw air from inside the cabin into the power cell box to cool the power cell and components such as the power cell's control unit. Air from inside the cabin flows in through an air intake duct located on the rear sill trim panel and down through the power cell or DC-DC converter (hybrid vehicle converter) to reduce the temperature of the power cell and DC-DC converter (hybrid vehicle converter). Air is exhausted from the vehicle through the exhaust pipe.
